    Weyauwega-Fremont High School Running
Hall of Fame
The history of track & field and cross country at Weyauwega-Fremont is a long and glorious one. Weyauwega & Fremont have a long-standing tradition of success in these two sports. Even before the school ever won a conference championship, the two communities were home to a State Championship. Before World War II, the two communities were blessed with individual state champions. With that as the historical backdrop, in 2004, Coach Arnie Behnke started selecting some of the men and women who had the greatest impacts on creating and maintaining the high level of excellence that the Weyauwega-Fremont Schools put on the track and cross country courses year after year. The first group of selections were made in 2004. The second class of honorees into the WFHST&CC Hall of Fame is being made in 2008.

Head Coach Len Rohde

Coach Rohde came to Weyauwega and was the head track coach for the first ever conference championship in 1954. He was the coach when the Indians won again in 1957.

Coach Rohde left teaching and coaching to become the Weyauwega Postmaster. Len may have left the sidelines, but he and his wife Mary saw two sons compete in track and field and hold school records, as well as qualifying for the state track meet.

His grandson was a member of the 2001 WFHS Boys Team that won the Len Rohde Relays Championship in 2001. Len also led the cross country team to state in 1955, 1956, 1957, and 1958 with a fifth place finish in 1956 topping the list of achievements.

Head Coach Don Chase

Affectionately known by his students as "Physicsman", Don followed Coach Rohde and became the first coach of a conference championship cross country team.

Don and his athletes won track championships in 1963 and 1967. He led the cross country teams to titles in 1960, 1961, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1967, and 1968.

Don took the cross country team to the state competition in 1960, 1961, 1962, 1964, and 1965 capturing 4th place in the state in 1960, 5th in 1961, and 6th place in 1962 and 1964.

Don left the coaching ranks in the early Seventies to concentrate on his administrative duties. Don has been the Presenter of Champions at the Cross Country Don Chase Relays every year through 2007 since its inception in 1991.
